Grain Valley is a small town on I-70 between Blue Springs and Oak Grove, and almost every storage facility here is a single-story, park-at-your-door layout. Drive-up means you pull up to your own roll-up door instead of hauling boxes down a hallway, which is what you want for furniture, tools, lawn gear and a mid-move truck unload. We found drive-up units at Extra Space and DMK Storage on SW Eagles Pkwy, StorageMart on NW Jefferson St and Spare Garage on E Old Hwy 40.

What stood out on research day

• Extra Space SW Eagles Pkwy was the cheapest drive-up in town, size for size. SpareFoot listed every unit there as drive-up: 5×10 $24 ($27), 10×10 $44 ($49), 10×15 $59 ($66), 10×20 $74 ($82) and 10×30 $95 ($106). A second 10×20 was $87 ($97), and a 20×15 was $95 ($106). It has a $29 admin fee, and SpareFoot says a manager lives on-site.
• StorageMart NW Jefferson St has the biggest drive-up units. Its own page listed drive-up 10×20 $128, 10×30 $196, 10×40 $314, 20×20 $370 and 30×20 $437, plus a climate-controlled drive-up 10×15 at $328. Smaller drive-up sizes were 5×10 $45, 8×10 $86, 10×15 $89 and 10×10 $97.
• StorageMart’s SpareFoot listing ran lower and splits units into tiers. On SpareFoot, its drive-up units come in Standard, Best Value and Deluxe versions, many with “50% Off for 3 Months”: for example a Standard 10×20 at $114 ($128) and a Standard 10×15 at $79 ($89). Ask which tier you’re getting and what the rent becomes after the promo.
• Spare Garage (113 E Old Hwy 40) has no admin fee. SpareFoot listed a 10×15 drive-up at $89 with a $0 admin fee, a security deposit, a fenced and lighted lot, and a 5% military discount. Its 5×10 ($55) and 10×20 ($135) were listed as outdoor access but not tagged drive-up.
• DMK Storage rents drive-up shipping containers, not units. Its indoor-storage page offers one size: a 20×8 airtight, waterproof container for $125/mo that you “simply drive up” to. The door opening is 7 ft 8 in wide and 7 ft 6 in tall, and the inside is about 19 ft 4 in long. Locks are $15 in the office.
• Nobody here is a 24/7 drive-up. Extra Space, StorageMart and Spare Garage all list gate access 6:00 AM–10:00 PM daily; SpareFoot says StorageMart offers 24-hour access with manager approval for an extra monthly fee. Grain Valley Storage (203 E 3rd St) is accessible 24/7, but SpareFoot lists its units as interior, so it isn’t a confirmed drive-up.

Price ladder (online prices seen, smallest unit first)

Extra Space prices are SpareFoot’s online rate, with the higher rate SpareFoot shows in parentheses. StorageMart’s own-page prices are from its facility page; its SpareFoot prices carry “50% Off for 3 Months” or similar promo labels. Prices exclude admin fees ($29 at Extra Space and StorageMart), StorageMart’s 2.5% card fee, deposits, insurance or protection plans, tax and later rate changes. Distances are SpareFoot’s from Grain Valley’s center.

Drive-up vs container vs interior

1. Standard drive-up unit (Extra Space, StorageMart, Spare Garage). Park at your own roll-up door. Best for furniture, tools and anything you move often. These units aren’t climate-controlled, so expect summer heat and winter cold inside.
2. Drive-up shipping container (DMK Storage). One 20×8 size, airtight and waterproof, with a container door 7 ft 6 in tall. Measure tall items like a fridge or headboard first.

4. Interior unit (Grain Valley Storage). The only 24/7 access we found in town, but SpareFoot lists the units as interior. Ask how close you can park before you book a move day.

• Confirm the unit is tagged drive-up, not just “outdoor access” or interior
• Ask whether the online price is still live, which tier it is (StorageMart Standard / Best Value / Deluxe), and what it becomes after any promo
• Budget the $29 admin fee (Extra Space, StorageMart), StorageMart’s 2.5% card fee, deposits (Spare Garage, Grain Valley Storage), and any required protection plan or proof of insurance
• Check gate hours: 6:00 AM–10:00 PM at Extra Space, StorageMart and Spare Garage, not published at DMK
• Measure the door opening if you’re storing tall items, especially for DMK’s 7 ft 6 in container door

Grain Valley practical tips

• Compare both StorageMart prices. The same NW Jefferson St units showed lower promo prices on SpareFoot than on StorageMart’s own page (for example 10×20 $114 vs $128). Ask the office which rate you’ll actually pay.
• Extra Space’s 10×30 is a bargain for a big move. At $95 ($106), it cost less than half of StorageMart’s 10×30 ($196). Big units go fast, so call before you load the truck.
• Spare Garage is the no-admin-fee pick. Its $0 admin fee and 5% military discount can offset a higher monthly rate on a short rental.
• Two Eagles Pkwy addresses. Extra Space is at 1600 SW Eagles Pkwy near I-70, and DMK is at 29803 SW Eagles Pkwy farther south. Check which one you’re driving to.
