24-Hour Access Storage in Merriam, Mission & Prairie Village, KS (2026 Snapshot)

If you restock a food truck before dawn, keep job-site tools in a unit, or just can’t get there before 10 PM, gate hours matter more than the sticker price. We checked the self-storage facilities serving Merriam, Mission and Prairie Village. On research day no facility promised an always-open gate. Two Public Storage pads showed a “24/7 Access Available” badge, but both list regular hours of 6:00 AM–10:00 PM. All three StorageMart pads sell after-hours access as an add-on.

What stood out on research day

• Public Storage W Frontage Rd (#1077) is the only pad with units tagged “24hr Access.” Its page shows a “24/7 Access Available” badge, and two drive-up units carry a 24hr Access tag: a 10×10 swing-door at $72/mo ($144 list) and a 10×24 roll-up at $91 ($182), both on a Halloween Sale. The property itself lists Mon–Sun 6:00 AM–10:00 PM, so ask which units get after-hours entry.
• The cheapest unit at #1077 was a 5×10 swing-door at $29 ($58). A regular 10×10 swing-door was $66 ($132), and a roll-up drive-up 10×10 was $91 ($182). The 24hr-tagged 10×10 is $6 more than the untagged one.
• Public Storage Foxridge (#938) in Mission also has the 24/7 badge, but it only showed large and vehicle spaces online: uncovered parking 10×24 $79 ($105, 2nd month free), enclosed drive-up 10×20 $91 ($182) and enclosed 10×25 boat/vehicle $105 ($210). No unit carried a 24hr Access tag, and no small or climate units were listed online.
• StorageMart’s after-hours access costs extra. Storage.com lists all three local StorageMart pads with “24-hour access (with manager approval, for an additional monthly fee)”. The 67th St operator page says “24-hour access is available upon request.” All three operator pages say access closes at 10:00 PM, and none of them shows the add-on price.
• StorageMart 67th St had the lowest small-unit prices among the add-on pads. Its own page listed a 5×4 at $29, a 5×5 at $41, a drive-up 5×10 at $60 and a drive-up 10×10 at $109. SpareFoot showed deals of $50 on the 5×10 and $97 on the 10×10.
• Prairie Village has no self-storage facility of its own. SpareFoot’s 24-hour Prairie Village page lists 23 facilities, and none is in the city. The closest are StorageMart on Shawnee Mission Pkwy (2.4 miles), StorageMart W Frontage Rd (3.5) and StorageMart 67th St (3.6).
• SpareFoot’s 24-hour lists don’t include Public Storage. The Merriam page lists 19 facilities. The first three are the StorageMart pads, and the fourth is 5.9 miles away in Kansas City, MO. The two pads with a 24/7 badge only show up on Public Storage’s own site.

Takeaway: For the clearest after-hours promise in a priced unit, look at Public Storage W Frontage Rd. Its 24hr Access 10×10 at $72 is the only unit here tagged for after-hours entry, but confirm the actual gate rules before you sign. If you’d rather have a smaller unit, StorageMart 67th St has a drive-up 5×10 at $60 ($50 on SpareFoot). Ask what its after-hours add-on costs before you compare totals.

Public Storage prices are online Halloween Sale rates, with the list price (also the in-store rate for months 5–12) in parentheses. Prices exclude admin fees ($29 at Public Storage and StorageMart), StorageMart’s 2.5% card fee and its after-hours add-on, insurance or protection plans, tax and later rate changes.

What “24-hour access” means here

1. A badge is not a gate schedule. Both Public Storage pads show “24/7 Access Available” right above “Property Open Mon–Sun 6:00 AM–10:00 PM.” At W Frontage Rd only certain units carry the 24hr Access tag, so rent that unit if you need it.
2. “With manager approval, for an additional monthly fee” means ask first. None of the StorageMart pages shows the add-on price. Get the fee and the rules in writing before you sign.
3. Listing filters are loose. SpareFoot’s 24-hour pages for all three cities list 19–23 facilities, most several miles away, and they leave out the two Public Storage pads that actually show a 24/7 badge.
4. Prairie Village renters will drive. There’s no facility inside the city, so pick based on your commute: Shawnee Mission Pkwy (2.4 mi), Foxridge in Mission or the I-35 pads in Merriam.

Verify checklist (before you rent)

• Ask whether 24-hour access applies to your unit and whether it’s included or costs extra
• At Public Storage, ask whether the unit you’re reserving is one of the 24hr Access units
• Ask whether the online price is still live and what it becomes after any promo
• Budget the admin fee, any card fee (2.5% at StorageMart) and any required protection plan
• Check gate code rules, lighting and cameras if you plan to visit late at night

Merriam, Mission & Prairie Village practical tips

• Prices moved since our 24-hour Shawnee guide (10/15). Public Storage #1077’s 24hr-tagged 10×10 dropped from $76 to $72, and its 24hr-tagged 10×24 from $99 to $91. StorageMart Shawnee Mission Pkwy’s SpareFoot deal on a 10×10 was still $114, the same as in our 10/14 Overland Park guide.
• Don’t mix up the two W Frontage Rd pads. Public Storage is at 7100 and StorageMart is at 7460, a few blocks apart off I-35. Only Public Storage shows 24hr-tagged units.
• Mind the office days. StorageMart 67th St’s office is closed Sunday and Monday, and W Frontage Rd’s is closed Wednesday and Sunday. Set up any after-hours add-on while someone is there.
