Vehicle, Boat & RV Storage in Merriam, Mission & Prairie Village, KS (2026 Snapshot)

Older northeast Johnson County neighborhoods have short driveways, tight streets and plenty of HOA and city rules about parking a boat or camper at home. If you live in Merriam, Mission or Prairie Village, the realistic options are enclosed drive-up bays and paved or uncovered parking spaces at self-storage pads along I-35, W Frontage Rd, Foxridge Dr and Shawnee Mission Pkwy, plus a few cheaper uncovered lots a mile or two west and north. We didn’t find a dedicated RV/boat lot inside any of the three cities.

What stood out on research day

• Mission has the cheapest open-air space inside the three cities. Public Storage Foxridge (#938) listed a 10×24 uncovered vehicle space at $79/mo ($105 list, 2nd month free). It also had enclosed boat/vehicle bays: 10×20 $91 ($182), 10×25 $105 ($210), 10×30 $150 ($300) and a 12×60 at $442 ($589, 2nd month free) for big rigs.
• StorageMart W Frontage Rd is Merriam’s paved-parking option. Its own page listed paved parking 8×18 at $94 ($84 for a non-gated space), 8×38 at $221 and 8×48 at $271, and its filter describes parking as 18 to 38 ft deep. Storage.com says vehicles there need registration, insurance and title, and must be drivable.
• Public Storage W Frontage Rd (#1077) is enclosed only. No uncovered spaces showed online. Its enclosed 10×30 boat/vehicle bay was $145 ($290) on a Halloween Sale, the enclosed 10×24 was $115 ($230) and the 10×20 was $95 ($190). A 10×24 roll-up drive-up tagged 24hr Access was $91 ($182).
• StorageMart 67th St says outright it has no outdoor car storage. Its page says “our large storage units are big enough to store vehicles” with depths up to 30 feet: drive-up 10×20 $179, 10×25 $236 and 10×30 $304.
• The cheapest uncovered spaces are just outside the three cities. Public Storage W 63rd St in Shawnee (2.2 mi from Merriam per SpareFoot) listed 10×24 vehicle parking at $55 ($110) and a 10×25 RV/boat/vehicle space at $70 ($140). 3150 S 44th St in Kansas City, KS (1.6 mi) had a 10×25 at $85 ($113, 2nd month free), and 11015 W 62nd Terrace (1.2 mi, Shawnee, Merriam’s 66203 ZIP) had a 9×28 uncovered space at $89 ($119, 2nd month free).
• Prairie Village renters will drive about 3.3–4.6 miles. SpareFoot’s Prairie Village RV page lists 48 facilities and none is in the city. The closest are PS W Frontage (3.3 mi), PS Farley St in Overland Park (3.5), Extra Space Mastin Dr (3.7) and PS Foxridge (3.8).
• Every pad here closes at 10 PM. All five Public Storage pages list Mon–Sun 6:00 AM–10:00 PM, and four of them (#1077, #938, S 44th, W 63rd) also show a “24/7 Access Available” badge. StorageMart access closes at 10:00 PM.

Price ladder (online prices seen, cheapest first)

Public Storage prices are online Halloween Sale or web rates, with the list price (also the in-store rate) in parentheses. “2nd month free” offers mean month 1 is billed at the listed rate. Prices exclude admin fees ($29 at Public Storage and StorageMart), StorageMart’s 2.5% card fee, insurance or protection plans, tax and later rate changes.

Covered vs uncovered vs enclosed

1. Uncovered space. The cheapest option ($55–$89 here). Sun, hail and ice hit your boat or camper, so budget for a good cover.
2. Paved parking (StorageMart W Frontage Rd). Still open-air. The 8×18 fits a car or small trailer, and the 8×38 and 8×48 fit longer trailers and campers. Ask whether your space sits inside the gate.
3. Enclosed drive-up bay. A garage-style unit with a roll-up door ($91–$150 for 10×20 to 10×30 in Mission and Merriam). Check door height before you tow a tall boat or camper.
4. Big rigs. The only enclosed bay over 30 ft we saw in the three cities was the 12×60 at PS Foxridge ($442). StorageMart W Frontage’s 8×48 paved space ($271) is the open-air alternative.

Measure overall length including the hitch and bring that number when you call.

Verify checklist (before you rent)

• Confirm the space type: uncovered, paved, or enclosed with a door
• Ask whether the online price is still live and what it becomes after the promo (Public Storage list prices are roughly double the sale rates)
• Budget the $29 admin fee, any card fee (2.5% at StorageMart) and any required protection plan or proof of insurance
• Check gate hours (6:00 AM–10:00 PM at every pad here) if you plan early lake trips
• Bring registration and title if you’re storing a vehicle at StorageMart

Merriam, Mission & Prairie Village practical tips

• Prices haven’t moved since Friday. Foxridge’s uncovered 10×24 ($79) and enclosed bays, and #1077’s enclosed 10×30 ($145), were the same on 10/26 as in our 10/23 24-hour guide.
• Don’t mix up the two W Frontage Rd pads. Public Storage is at 7100 (enclosed bays only) and StorageMart is at 7460 (paved parking), a few blocks apart off I-35.
• Mind StorageMart’s office days. W Frontage’s office is closed Wednesday and Sunday, and 67th St’s is closed Sunday and Monday. Sign up while someone is there.
