Kansas City, Kansas has plenty of storage, but most of it is outdoor drive-up rows along State Ave and S 44th St. If you need climate control for wood furniture, a mattress, electronics, photos or paperwork, the choice inside KCK is short. On research day we found two Public Storage pads with true climate-controlled units and two StorageMart pads whose “climate” units are labeled heated only. The cheapest climate units for a KCK renter were 3–4 miles east, across the state line in Kansas City, MO.

What stood out on research day
- Cheapest true climate 10×10 in KCK: Public Storage on S 44th St (66106). A ground-floor climate 10×10 was $101 online ($126 in-store) with $1 first month. It also had climate 5×5 $36, 5×10 $59 and 10×15 $137. This pad isn’t on SpareFoot, so you’ll only find it on Public Storage’s own site.
- West side: Public Storage on N 78th St (66112). First-floor climate units at 5×10 $98, 10×10 $123 ($154 in-store) and 10×15 $196, most with $1 first month. SpareFoot and Public Storage’s own page showed the same prices.
- StorageMart says “heated only.” On SpareFoot, every climate card at StorageMart Southwest Blvd (66103) and State Ave (66112) reads “Climate controlled, Heated only.” That means heat in winter, not necessarily cooling in summer. The 10×10s were $130 and $129.
- The other four Public Storage pads in KCK listed no climate units. 6600 State Ave, 5500 State Ave, 7221 State Ave and 3150 S 44th St had only outdoor drive-up, non-climate interior or parking units on research day.
- Across the state line is cheaper. Extra Space on Gillham Plaza (4 mi per SpareFoot) listed an upstairs climate 10×10 at $46. Smart Storage KC on W 31st St (3.2 mi) had climate units with 24-hour access, 10×10 $105.

- Full climate control keeps temperature in a set range year-round, heating in winter and cooling in summer. Public Storage S 44th St, N 78th St and Mission, Extra Space Gillham Plaza and Smart Storage KC listed units as climate-controlled with no “heated only” note.
- Heated only keeps a unit from freezing but may not cool it in a Kansas City July. That’s fine for most boxes and furniture in winter, but less so for electronics, vinyl records, photos or anything that warps in humid heat. All the StorageMart units on this page are heated only.
- Floor matters. At Extra Space Gillham Plaza the cheapest climate units are upstairs via elevator. First-floor units cost more ($56 vs $46 for a 10×10).
